About me
Brett D. Schandelson serves as Director of the Montana Office of State Public Defender (OPD), where he has transformed the agency through data-driven initiatives and innovative management approaches. His leadership has significantly improved attorney retention and workload management through the implementation of the Ethical Case Management system, a data-driven, practical approach to public defense workloads. Prior to becoming Director, Brett established and led OPD's Development and Operations Bureau, where he modernized the agency's technological infrastructure and operational systems. Before joining OPD in 2018, he was the managing shareholder at Tipp Coburn Schandelson PC, where he specialized in criminal defense and civil rights litigation. Brett is based in Missoula, Montana, with his family and their goldendoodle, Herbie.
